It’s an unpopular opinion, but I don’t think that ASD needs to be cured. We love our son and his autism. It is a huge part of his personality and I wouldn’t change it for the world. I think it’s time for us to shift some of our focus from autism awareness to autism acceptance.
What would a cure for autism really look like?
I think a lot of people who suggest acceptance for many things really don’t want acceptance as much as validation of their own feelings. I agree with you in that everybody is all parts of themselves as they are. A cold can be cured because it’s caused by an outside force. Autism is a part of the autistic person. You can no more “cure” it as you can cure being blonde. I would rather accept all of a person than cover up part of his or her personality.

Agreed, both with this post and with Reality Show’s comment above. I’m an Asperger’s/autistic adult, and I actually like being this way (!). I was definitely born this way and it’s totally cool with me. 💚💙
